Scale-free abstractions
Instruments for thinking with abstractions that work at every level of a system – a cell, a person, a group, a movement. Each lens lets you find something out in a model and carry the question back to a situation you know; some show the same pattern in a second, different system. Every lens has a group mode for working through it together.
“Scale-free” here means usable at every level. The suppression paradox also meets the physicist’s sense – no characteristic scale – and says so. More on both senses.
See a pattern and what holds it
- Push or reshape – Why does every push snap back?
Read the moment
- The suppression paradox – Why do systems managed for stability end in bigger collapses?
Change level
- The right level – At what level should we explain what happens, and act on it?
Your system
- Knockout probe – What happens if one person steps back?
